Course in IP protection

Under the framework of BlueBio4Future ERA Chair and GRINNAQUA twinning projects, boosting the scientific excellence and innovation capacity at CIIMAR, the first module of the Intelectual Property (IP) course, on IP Protection and Valorization will take place at CIIMAR – Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, on the 31st of October.
We will count on invited speakers from Patentree, specialized in intellectual property strategies and management, to help CIIMAR researchers and collaborators understand IP general concepts and patentability requirements. They will also share the most relevant and current examples of patents in aquaculture and biotechnology, as opportunities to learn from experience.
A round-table discussion will enable researchers and stakeholders to engage in dynamic conversations and better understand how to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer between academia and society.
Registrations, until the 30th of October, are free but mandatory.
Invited Speakers
Anabela Teixeira Carvalho
Anabela Carvalho is a Qualified European Patent Attorney, a Portuguese Patent and Trademark Attorney and a European Trademark and Design Attorney.
Anabela holds a bioengineering degree from the University of Minho, Portugal. She is a partner at Patentree.
Anabela has helped clients extensively in the development of strategies and solutions for patent and IP management (advanced and defensive patent filings). She has comprehensive patent prosecution experience in European, Patent Cooperation Treaty and Portuguese patent applications, including providing opinions and analysis on patentability, freedom-to-operate and infringement matters.
Miguel Araújo Maia
Miguel Maia is a Portuguese Patent and Trademark Attorney and a European Trademark and Design attorney, and an Intellectual Property Strategist at Patentree.
Miguel is a pharmacist and holds a PhD in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from CIIMAR and Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto. Currently, he is taking the Basic Training Course in European Patent Law from the University of Strasbourg.
Miguel has prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry and collaborated with the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Porto – UPIN in the patentability analysis and commercialization of new technologies.
Ana Caldas Cavadas
Ana Cavadas is a member of the CIIMAR-UP Science and Innovation Office, where she plays a vital role in facilitating the center‘s knowledge transfer and innovation management. Her primary responsibilities encompass the crucial aspects of R&D results valorization and exploitation, management of Intellectual Property, fostering stakeholder relationships, driving market-oriented R&D initiatives, crafting CIIMAR’s innovation strategy, and actively promoting entrepreneurship. Ana‘s educational background includes a degree in Environmental Sciences and Technology, a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, and a post-graduate qualification in Business Process Engineering and Management.
Marta Santos
Marta Santos graduated in Biochemistry with a specialization in Applied Biochemistry in 2001. Since then, she accumulated 20 years of experience in Health and Life Sciences, being admitted in 2002 as doctoral student in the graduate program in areas of Basic and Applied Biology of the University of Porto. She finished her PhD in Health Sciences in 2006. From 2007 to 2014 she was Director of Research, Development and Innovation of Biosckin-Molecular and Cell Therapies S.A., a biotechnology company active in the health area. From 2014 to 2021 she worked as Business Development Specialist/Intellectual Property Consultant specialized as liaison for Pharma and Life and Health Sciences in ClarkeModet Portugal. In 2021 she joined the B2E CoLAB team as an Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Specialist.
