This March, the vibrant city of Oporto will welcome researchers for a three-day intensive Bioinformatics Short Course, an initiative of the BlueBio4Future ERA Chair. From March 17th to March 19th, 2025, this program will focus on the theme: Decoding (Meta)Genomes for Natural Products Discovery, offering participants hands-on training with cutting-edge tools and techniques used in bioinformatics pipelines for natural product discovery.
Highly regarded researchers will lead the course in the field:
- Catarina Loureiro (Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands)
- Mauricio Caraballo (University of California, USA)
- Arménio Barbosa (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal)
- Hans Singh (University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, USA)
Participants will gain expertise in:
- Bioinformatics approaches to bioprospection and phylogenetic analyses for natural product discovery.
- Computational protein structure prediction.
- Mastering tools such as antiSMASH, BiG-SCAPE, MicrobeMASST (GNPS), NapDos2, and others integral to discovery pipelines.
This short course exemplifies the ERA Chair’s commitment to equipping CIIMAR researchers with advanced knowledge and practical skills in underdeveloped fields, aligning with the broader vision of fostering excellence in biotechnological research.
Note: A follow-up registration form will be shared closer to the date for those aiming to attend only on the last day of the event.
We thank the guest speakers for their invaluable contributions and dedication. Their insights will undoubtedly inspire innovative research projects in bioinformatics and natural product discovery at CIIMAR.
Looking ahead, the ERA Chair BlueBio4Future will continue its mission to enhance the expertise of CIIMAR researchers, focusing on areas like Green Chemistry, Synthetic Biology, Bioinformatics, and Bioprocessing.
